Clothes that work from the gate to dinner
The outfit problem on a short trip is not style. It is that you get on a plane in the morning and sit down to eat at night in the same clothes, after a walk. You want one look that can do both without a suitcase rehearsal.
Start with the shoes
If the shoes are wrong, nothing else matters. Wear the pair you can walk in from the station to the hotel and still want at a table. Clean them before you go. A dark boot or a plain trainer in good condition beats a prettier shoe you take off under the table. Pack no second pair unless the first cannot handle rain.
One layer that changes the day
A jacket, a shirt, or a knit you can put on when the heating of the day drops. Travel in the simpler layer. Add the sharper one at the hotel in four minutes, not in a station toilet with the bag open. Darker colours hide the seat of the train. A scarf or a belt does more than a second dress. Jewellery that goes through security in a pocket is the kind to bring.
What to leave
Leave the outfit that only works if the evening is exactly as you pictured. Leave white if you will eat. Leave anything that wrinkles into a different garment. You are going to dinner, not a shoot. The clothes that get you there comfortably and still look considered when you sit down are the right ones. Repeat them tomorrow. That is allowed.
